Such a wonderful family! I photograph newborns often, usually in client’s homes (though my SODO studio is available should you need it). My sessions are around 90 minutes, though we’re not shooting that whole time. I work the photography around baby’s care. So I might arrive and mom is feeding baby, so I’ll take photos of the nursery until she’s done (or photograph her nursing if she wants!). Then we’ll gently place baby on the bed with different blankets (backgrounds, if you will) for their portrait. There are photos of baby and each parent, the whole family, and of course the dog if you like! I keep it all very relaxed, and will encourage parents to stay close to the baby as I shoot, and pick them up whenever they need.

Typically I use the master bedroom, the nursery, a great big window, and the baby’s nursery (if there is one, sometimes second and third kiddos don’t have a room!). I just need a few pretty spots for a full shoot, so the rest of the house can remain a mess! New parents have enough to do getting themselves ready for a photo shoot, I would never expect the house to be pristine. It’s all about making the experience as easy as possible.
