I recently learned the term “Fresh 48 session”. It’s when new parents have a photographer come and take photos of the baby in the hospital, in the first 48 hours after they’re born. These can be the official “newborn photos”, or they can be additional photos to the newborn shoot you do at home later, in the first 2 weeks of baby’s life. Technically I’ve done a number of Fresh 48 sessions as a photographer – I just called them “taking photos of my friend’s babies when I went to see them at the hospital”! Now that it’s a recognized photography category, I’m of course happy to offer these sessions to clients. They’re so fun! This particular shoot was for one of my best friends, her husband, and their 2nd baby boy Charlie. We shot at the hospital room at Swedish First Hill. One of my favorite images is dad Christopher holding baby Charlie in the football hold – I told him only 2nd-time Dad’s are comfortable doing that with a baby less than 24 hours old! Too cute. The last shot I took on my way to the car. I looked up at the building and realized I had a clear view of the room, and Dad holding baby! Welcome to the world, and our crazy wonderful bunch, baby Charlie! Can’t wait for your newborn session at home, with big brother Parker!
