Discovery Park at sunset is one of the best places to take family photos in Seattle summer. With views of the Puget Sound, Olympics, and a big wispy field, it’s a magical setting for photography with your kids, tweens, or teenagers.
Seattle Summer days are long, meaning golden hour (sunset) is often from 8pm to 9pm. This is the ideal time to take family pictures! I tell clients it’s just one night, and kids often have a surge of energy in new locations. The light is so worth it.
My family photography sessions are a mix of candid, and classic look-at-the-camera portraits. My editing style is clean, true to color, with natural skin tones (nothing over-processed, ultra filtered, or orange complexions). As a Seattle photographer, I want you to love your images this year, and 20 years from now. So classic, natural, lifestyle images are my go-to.
Natural smiles and connected moments make the best family portraits. Instead of forcing you into awkward poses, I do a soft direction of where to stand or what to do, then prompt you to share a fun family memory, your favorite nicknames for the kids, or “who’s most likely to sleep in?”. When you connect to a truly funny or joyful memory, you and your kids smile your real smiles.
I always offer a photo of parents together!
One of the best way to get candids, is to walk! I keep my family sessions moving, because movement makes for great photographs.
