If you’re looking for a lifestyle in-home newborn photographer, that keeps the session fun, light and easy, I’d love to work with you! Many (most?) of my clients will say they’re not comfortable in front of of the camera, or they’re anxious about having their photo taken because it feels awkward and forced. As much as I’ve developed my lighting and composition skills, I’ve worked to make sure the photography session experience is one clients actually enjoy.
My goal is a mix of look-at-the-camera and candid imagery (since I like variety)! You can expect me to say “hold your baby as you would when I’m not here”, then I might adjust their head gently so I can see their cute face, and start snapping away. I’ll ask you to tell me if you have any nicknames for your children, or what’s been your favorite part of the experience. Not because I’m just trying to chat, but because when you connect mentally to something light and fun, it’ll show in your expression and we get you real smiles.
While I’m based in Seattle, I travel all over the PNW region for baby and family photography – Duvall, Renton, Sammamish, Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, you name it! Happy to hop on a ferry to Bainbridge Island or Vashon too.
Because I like lifestyle newborn pictures, I don’t bring props or force baby into unnatural poses. However if you have a sentimental item you’d like included, like a quilt or teddy bear, I’m happy to photograph anything you’d like.
Newborn sessions can be in the first week or two after birth or, like baby Wilder, you can opt for month 2 or 3. Some families prefer to catch their breath in that initial postpartum stage before having a newborn photographer in their home. I support whatever is easiest for your family!
Older siblings can feel differently about the new arrival. If they’re snuggly, we work with that! If they’re nervous or a little apprehensive, I have poses where they don’t have to hold their new baby brother or sister. I am paying attention to their comfort level the whole time, so the session experience isn’t overwhelming.
Some toddlers aren’t interested in snuggling or getting close for a shot. It’s okay! I think candid moments like this are still meaningful storytelling. Real is better than forced any day!
Most of the time I pose parents with the new baby, the big siblings run in, not wanting to be left out. We just quickly turn it into another family photo! While I have a shot list for your session, I’m not strict about the order. We go with the flow, and what’s working for your kiddos.
For inquiries, you can text (206-799-9176) or email me. If you’re ready to schedule, you can use my online booking page to choose your date. I recommend scheduling about 2 weeks after your due date (or again, later if you want more time to recover). If baby arrives early or late, just let me know and we can reschedule. No biggie!
