It’s golden hour season! If you’re looking for magical family photos in one of Seattle’s best photography locations, I highly recommend sunset at Discovery Park meadow. Golden hour offers beautiful back-lighting in the last hour of the day. If you’re worried about kids’ bedtimes, I find most kids over 5 do just fine. Because we’re in a new, beautiful space, outside with lots of room to run, they find a last burst of energy before bedtime. If you have infants or toddlers and want golden hour, I recommend shooting in Spring or Summer when sunset is earlier in the day. During Summer, sunset is often around 9pm!
Families with older kiddos will often get their annual family photos taken in Summer when they have more relaxed schedules, and don’t have to worry about weather. The photos will still be relevant for Christmas and holiday cards come Fall! If you want something more current, I recommend booking a Fall photo session soon. Holiday minis will be released mid-July via my newsletter (sign-up here). There are lots of options for PNW family photography – Discovery Park is wonderful if you want views of the Sound and an open meadow aesthetic. But I also offer family photo sessions at beaches, rivers, cliffs, flower farms and nurseries, and up in the mountains too!
