Loved this family/maternity photo shoot on Bainbridge, just 30 minutes from Seattle. Some families will opt out of maternity sessions when they’re expecting their second or third child, but I think it should be the opposite! Because now you get to capture the older child’s anticipation of becoming a big brother or sister. It’s so sweet.

We shot at sunset at Faye Bainbridge Park. I recommend this time of day for beaches because the light is low and soft. If we shoot in wide open spaces with the sun is high, light is harsh and we see more squinting expressions. I also recommend shooting popular locations on weekdays, to avoid crowds. We had the space to ourselves, and it made for such a peaceful time.

A Petite (30 minute) session is appropriate for a group this size. We get photos of the family together, mama alone, each parent with the child, candids, and look-at-the camera shots too. With over 20 years of experience, I’ve learned to “shoot at the speed of 2-year-old!”. I like to be efficient, keep things moving, light and fun. My subjects stay more engaged and animated that way, and the photos are better!
